SPAR stores in the south west owned by Gilletts of Callington Ltd. are taking part in a fundraising initiative in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for the Children’s Hospice South West charity.

After the successful launch of S Budget and some really positive customer feedback across the whole of our business SPAR as a group have launched a range of S Budget recipes, which we feel are a great way to further push our value message.

Gilletts Callington Ltd is hoping to start the conversion of its store on Kingsash Road, Paignton after the success of a store at Sidford near Exeter following its exstension.

Gillett's Go Green

Over the last couple of weeks Gilletts Callington ltd have invested over £35,000 on new equipment at two stores as part of a trial to try and reduce its carbon footprint by reducing the amount of energy the store's consume chilling its fresh product range.

Mark Gillett commented "we are always looking to reduce costs within the company and with electric prices constantly on the up... we decided it was time to look at other options available to us for chilling fresh foods"

Ten Trainee Managers gathered on Thursday 14th April 2011 at the Training Suite above Callington store to present the projects they had prepared as part of their 18 month training programme.

Directors and Area Managers were there to witness some very well thought out ideas and thoughts on saving money and time and also increasing sales.

Quintrell Downs Opens its doors on Dec 1St 2010  

We are delighted in welcoming the team at Spar Quintrell Downs, Nr, Newquay, Cornwall to the Gillett’s family.

 The store successfully opened on Wednesday 1st December to great acclaim in the locality after undergoing an exstensive extension and refit to the store after we purchased it back in June 2010.

At Bovey Tracey, Morgan and his team decided to raise money for Children In Need and staff came in on their day off to man a raffle, with many prizes being donated by staff.

They had guess the number of sweets in the jar and also raised money by asking for a small donation for a carrier bag on the day.

Dawn and her team at St. Dennis had a brilliant idea about sitting in a bath of baked beans on the forecourt of the store and raising money for Pink Day!!! So they did it, but chose the coldest day of the year so far with inches of snow on the ground!!!

The atmosphere however was really warm, with customers delighted that Dawn and her team were willing to go through an hour sat in a very cold bath of baked beans in order to raise funds for such a worthwhile cause.

Pink Day was a great success with many stores making a great effort and staff have reported they were having loads of fun along the way.

A great example of this was at our Alphington store where April took charge and arranged various stalls, homemade cakes, homemade jewellery, Christmas cards, raffle and a guess the mileage competition on a vintage car one of the staff own. With the help of a number of  people on the stalls we are pleased to say she raised a total of £517.50.

The launch of the hot food area at the new store in Winborne saw Amy Gillett get right in to the spirit of the day dressing as a coffee cup to promote the launch of our first venture into the world of Coffee Nation, arguably the best cup of coffee available from a machine.

Tavvy7 Update

I'd like to thank everyone for their support and sponsorship for my recent Tavvy 7 run.

Your help has helped me reach and surpass my target of £1000, and hopefully by the time all monies are in i will reach the £1500 mark, which would

Gilletts Manager Wins Car at Show

Thursday the 30th of October was a lucky day for one Gilletts Callington Ltd Manager that was attending the Appleby Westward trade show at West Point in Exeter, Devon, leaving the show with much more than she arrived with.

On Thursday the 4th December 2008, Gilletts Callington Ltd's (GCL), Carnon Downs store near Truro scooped the top award at the Wiseman Dairies store of the year award ceremony held at the prestigeous Loch Lomond golf club in Scotland.
