On Thursday the 4th December 2008, Gilletts Callington Ltd's (GCL), Carnon Downs store near Truro scooped the top award at the Wiseman Dairies store of the year award ceremony held at the prestigeous Loch Lomond golf club in Scotland.

Carnon Downs pipped some of the best convenience stores in the country to the top award of "Neighbourhood Store of the Year" after being judged by industry leaders during the final round of the competition, which started in early 2008 with around 8000 entries.

The SPAR in Carnon Downs  part of the Gilletts group, impressed the judges with its in-store bakery, Butchery and extensive range of local products.

Judge Stanley Morrice said: "we were looking for a store that is central to the community, had exceptional store standards and layout and had something a bit special to offer its custommers and Carnon Down ticked all those boxes for me"
