Premiership Comes To Tavistock

Tavistock Football Club who are proudly sponsored by Gilletts Callington experienced a touch of the high life as Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers visited Langsford Park on Monday evening for a pre-season friendly.
Just before kick off Tavistock was the victim of a torrential downpour which didn’t stop a very healthy crowd from coming through the turnstiles to witness the unusual sight of a Premiership team playing in their market town.
Rangers fielded many of the side that had won them the Championship last season and unsurprisingly Tavistock struggled to match them all over the pitch during a very testing evening for the Lambs.
Rangers opened the scoring after less than five minutes with Hogan Ephraim getting the first of the four goals he was to score on the night and further goals in the first half followed from Tommy Smith, Ephraim and Ageymang.

Tavistock came desperately close to getting on the scoresheet just before half time when their best effort of the evening cannoned back off the post
With the score at 4-0 at half time the R’s manager Neil Warnock rang the changes bringing on no less than three full internationals in Heidar Helguson, Petter Vaggen Moen and Danny Shittu.
Four Goal Hogan Ephraim
Tavistock gamely held out for the first 15 minutes of the second half before the floodgates opened when Tavistock defender, James conceded an own goal, which he then bizarrely celebrated with a clenched fist and big grin.

In the next twenty minutes Rangers ran riot as Ephraim completed his hat-trick which was closely followed by goals from Helguson (2), Webber, Shittu, another for Ephraim, Vaggen Moen before Connolly rounded off the romp.

QPR’s class showed on the night but Tavistock must take full credit for the fact that they never stopped running and looking for chances on a night where they were always going to find it very tough.
